The challenge
A remote site with loose sandy ground required the construction of a stable, compacted platform. The installation needed to create a defined and reinforced footprint while allowing locally placed aggregate to be built up and mechanically compacted.
What we supplied
Geotextile sandbags were positioned around the perimeter of the excavated area to form part of the platform construction. Once the sandbags were placed, aggregate material was spread across the prepared area and compacted using a pedestrian roller. The bags provided a flexible perimeter detail that could conform to the excavated ground while the aggregate layer was progressively placed and compacted.
The result
The completed installation created a defined, compacted platform within the sandy site conditions. Using sandbags alongside conventional aggregate placement provided a practical method of constructing and reinforcing the platform without requiring a rigid concrete perimeter structure. The installation could be completed using relatively simple site equipment, including a tractor, trailer and pedestrian compactor.
